Maria Shaikh

Maria Shaikh was a biochemistry student with an Asian Studies minor who served as Managing Editor of The Retrograde since its founding in Sept. 2024. She accidentally tripped and fell into journalism her freshman year, first starting out as The Mercury’s Copy Editor before working her way up to Managing Editor by May 2024. She loves science writing, investigative journalism and feature articles about fascinating people. When she’s not corralling writers or editing stories, Maria can be found researching in BSB, writing for UTD’s student magazine AMP, reading horror stories, attempting new recipes and running the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association as its student president (during her AY2025-26 term).
