UTD’s parking office announced around 2 p.m. Tuesday that level 5 of Parking Structure 1, PS3 and PS4 would all be closed beginning Feb. 18 in preparation for extreme weather conditions on campus.

“If you are currently parked on Level 5, please be sure to move your vehicle by 6:00 p.m. today,” the announcement reads.

The National Weather Service placed an extreme cold warning in effect for the DFW area as of 9:00 p.m. Feb. 17, and the warning will stay in effect until 9:00 a.m. Feb. 20.

The parking office said the closure was intended to prevent complications as a result of icy conditions.

As of publication, no announcement has been made regarding classes being canceled or changes to other university services during this period.

In a Jan. 3 press release about UTD’s inclement weather policy, Tiffany Parker, assistant director of fire management and life safety, said that if weather conditions require in-person classes and activities to be suspended, UTD will attempt to post any relevant information on its websites by 6 a.m. the day of the cancellation.

“Students and faculty are encouraged to make use of eLearning and other means of continuing academic progress if conditions prohibit travel,” Parker wrote in the press release.
