USL Super League week 2: Dallas Trinity FC stifles Brooklyn FC

Dallas Trinity survives down-to-the-wire game in shutout fashion to remain undefeated

Dallas Trinity FC defeated Brooklyn FC Aug. 30 by a score of 1-0. This victory gives Dallas Trinity six points in two games and an early lead in the Gainbridge Super League standings. Both Dallas Trinity and Brooklyn had won their Week 1 games, setting this match up to be an early-season test for Dallas Trinity.

Dallas Trinity got off to a fast start, scoring the game’s only goal in the 13th minute off a corner entry from midfielder Wayny Balata that found the head of midfielder Maya McCutcheon. Dallas Trinity would keep up the pressure, putting two more shots on target in the next two minutes that would ultimately be saved.

The game slowed down from there. Dallas Trinity, who came into the season with a focus on possessing the ball, actually lost the time of possession battle 41% to 59%. However, Brooklyn was unable to generate any dangerous scoring opportunities. With six minutes of added time and Brooklyn trying to tie the game, Dallas Trinity would not allow a shot on target as they sealed an impressive victory.

Dallas Trinity had 10 shots on the day, with five being on target. They committed 10 fouls and were assessed one yellow card.

After playing their first two games at home, Dallas Trinity will play five straight matches on the road, starting with a matchup at Sporting JAX on Sep. 6 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
