In an exclusive runway interview, Dallas Trinity FC midfielder Lexi Missimo announced she intends to return to the field for the team’s Dec. 6 matchup against DC Power at the Cotton Bowl.
Missimo’s injury has taken her off the field for longer than expected, with her initial press release estimating she would be back in play by June. In the mean time, Trinity has had a historic run in the Texan women’s sports scene. Its Oct. 18 international exhibition match against Mexico’s Club América Femenil broke attendance records for the state.
Missimo is a Texan hero for many local soccer fans. She verbally signed with the University of Texas in seventh grade, and ended up delivering on those young promises by becoming UT’s leader in career goals (56), career points (176) and assists (64). In her first four minutes on field with Trinity, she scored her team’s sole point for the game. That record only made her ligament injury this April all the more painful.
A crucial asset to the team, fans are hoping a rejuvenated No. 10 could improve Trinity’s standings, which currently place them in seventh of nine teams in the Gainbridge Super League. Given only the top four teams will earn a spot in playoffs next May, a quick turnaround would benefit the team greatly. Missimo’s father confirmed this morning at 8:21 a.m. that Missimo would be returning to the pitch for the Dec. 6 match.
