Rumors of a stabbing at the Northside apartments started spreading across UTD’s official app, Reddit, Facebook and GroupMe starting Feb. 14. Dozens of students made claims of being stabbed themselves, witnessing a stabbing and hearing of a knife attack. But the Richardson Police Department says that’s not what happened.

Officers did show up to the complex Feb. 14 following an emergency call, but department officials told The Retrograde the call was for a mental health crisis, not a stabbing. Videos obtained by The Retrograde and circulated online show a Northside resident transported to the hospital as part of this emergency.

Richardson police did not provide additional details about the individual involved or the nature of the crisis, citing privacy concerns. Counselors are available through the Student Counseling Center for students seeking support.

This is a breaking news story. The Retrograde will provide updates as more information becomes available.
