A gas leak in Berkner Hall closed immediate area around the building as UTD PD, fire and emergency management respond.
Around noon today, students began reporting that the area around BE had been cordoned off with police tape. Retrograde staff spoke to UTDPD officers patrolling the area for information. The officers said that the university was waiting on gas specialists and the fire department to deal with the situation. As of publication, no cause has been identified and no resolution timeline has been provided.
“Berkner is one of the oldest buildings on campus,” UTDPD patrol officer Kendrick Johnson said. “Our job is to keep students safe while the situation gets resolved.”
