On Sept. 11, Richardson Mayor Amir Omar rode the Silver Line in partnership with UTD club Comets for Better Transit and the Richardson Mayor’s Advisory Council.
Approximately 25 people attended the event, DART-ing Around Town, including DART Chairperson Randall Bryant as well as Comets for Better Transit President and political science junior Max Preston.
“I think it is a good showing of appreciation from the mayor and DART,” Preston said. “It feels like the first acknowledgement of DART’s ridership since I got to UTD: the 883 — I think — has the highest ridership out of any line at DART and we are way more connected to transit than it seems.”
Community members and students alike rode from UTD’s Silver Line station one stop east to Cityline, where individuals disembarked and met inside The Brass Tap, a local restaurant.
“I think these events can serve as a really easy way to discuss transit issues at UTD, as well as foster a community within our ridership,” Preston said. “It was a really good opportunity to get to talk to the mayor.”
